W.B. Hopke Awarded The Pinnacle in North Bethesda

April 13, 2024 | W.B. Hopke Co. | New Project Award

When it comes to senior living in Maryland, The Pinnacle in North Bethesda is a cut above the rest. This 17-story senior living tower project will include 113 independent living units, 40 assisted living units and 48 units designated for The Bridge and memory care.

For seniors, the new apartment complex will offer just about everything they need including multiple restaurants, a wellness center, swimming pool, fitness facility, a day spa and salon. It will also provide multiple outdoor terraces and 18,000 square feet of street-level retail or restaurant space.

Hopke will play a key role providing wet utilities connection to the water, sanitary and storm. The project, which was awarded to Hopke in January 2024, will begin in mid-April and Hopke’s scope will take approximately two to three months to complete. The site is located at 11555 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda in Maryland and the general contractor for this project is John Moriarty & Associates with offices located in VA, MA, NC and FL.

“This project requires digging trenches at varying depths. For the water we generally will dig about 4 feet deep. Water utilities for this project include laying the pipe, adding wet taps and 2 new fire hydrants and reconnecting a 10″ water house to the building,” said Charlie McClellan, senior estimator for Hopke.

For the sanitary lines, a trench will be dug about 12 to 14 feet deep. Hopke will connect to an existing manhole and run a 12″ line to an existing building.

“Our excavator will dig about a 10 to12 foot trench and install 3 small storm lines to the existing structure,” said McClellan.

This project, considered by Hopke relatively routine, should not take long to complete. The challenge on this project is finding and working around all of the existing utilities at the site and working in the middle of heavily congested roadways. Said McClellan, “We will call in Miss Utility then test hole it to locate the utilities. The project will also require some traffic control on Old Georgetown Road.”

The Project Manager for this job is Svetla Todorova.
