The new expansion at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia is well under way in Aldie, VA. The expansion off the main rehabilitation hospital consists of a smaller building and includes 9 modular building units that will provide life-changing care to patients in the area. Encompass Health Rehabilitation located at 24430 Millstream Dr. Aldie, VA is a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for patients suffering from stroke, brain injury, hip fracture and other neurological and orthopedic conditions.

For Hopke, the wet utilities work which began on February 2, 2025, and is being overseen by general contractor, Wohlsen Construction, consists of sanitary, storm, water and drainage. The project is interesting in that Hopke will be extending an existing pipe from the main health and rehab hospital to a smaller building and from there extending pipe to a concrete pad that houses 9 modular rehabilitation buildings. The project is approximately 60% complete and scheduled to conclude in the later part of 2025.

Hopke Senior Project Manager, Paul Cloutier indicated that the sanitary aspect of the project will include Hopke furnishing and installing a duplex lift station. The duplex lift station is specially designed for this project to meet Loudoun Water requirements. It provides continuous operation for handling peak flow demands.

The storm work includes a StormTech system installed underground to manage, capture, store and infiltrate stormwater runoff. This system helps reduce flooding, improves water quality and protects water resources. The storm work also includes manholes and HDPE piping. For the water, Hopke will be installing a new domestic water connection, a fire line and 2 fire hydrant lines. The project will also include a bioretention area that will be landscaped.

Paul stated, “The concerns with this project. First, Loudoun Water requires a specific installation schedule. Second, this is a small site with a wall being built around the storm installation, so we must be exact with our scheduling. The sanitary system is between an existing building and the new addition, and the work areas are in very close quarters.”

Paul continued, “We have a great team on this project, consisting of our estimator Dillon McCoy, Superintendent Tommy Kennedy, Foreman Dillon Kennedy, and a great crew consisting of Roberto Hernandez, Windsor Gomez, Juvniton Madrid, Kevin Crespo, and Carlos Montoya.”

W.B. Hopke would like to extend a special thank you to all those involved with this project.
