W.B. Hopke would like to thank general contractor Balfour Beatty for selecting W.B. Hopke Company for the Hazel & Azure project at National Landing located at 3030 Potomac Ave, Arlington VA. The residential project, still under construction, provides for 491 residential units and 6,800 square feet of retail space in the heart of Crystal City.

W.B. Hopke Capital One Block D Wet Utilities Project Continues in Tysons Corner, VA

Construction continues in Tysons Corner at the home of Capital One’s headquarters located at 1820 Capital One Drive, McLean, VA. Known as the Capital One Block D project, W.B. Hopke was awarded the wet utilities project, which is now about is 45% complete. Overseen by general contractor Gilbane Building Company, Hopke was awarded the wet utilities work on July 19, 2024 which includes sanitary, storm, water and drainage.

Mike Lipps

Foreman, Mike Lipps has been with W.B. Hopke for 17 years. He started in 2008 at the age of 23. He was encouraged by his high school friend, now Hopke Superintendent, Billy Green who suggested that he sign up with W.B. Hopke. Like many at Hopke, Mike started almost at the bottom. Billy Green trained him how to run equipment. Initially, Mike ran a loader and then an excavator. He also spent time laying pipe in the trenches.

W.B. Hopke Awarded New Wet Utilities Project at Sidwell Friends Upper School in Washington DC

In 2016, Washington Home & Community Hospices phased out its nursing home and rehabilitation programs and transferred their hospices services to Capital Caring Health in NW DC. This opened the door to renovation, construction and expansion of the property to become Sidwell Friends Upper School, home to children from grades 9-12.

US Coast Guard Headquarters in Southeast DC

In 2010, W.B. Hopke worked on a very interesting project for the US Coast Guard Headquarters in Southeast DC in the historic neighborhood of Anacostia. Hopke worked with Clark Construction, the general contractor for this project. The size of this project site was very large and complicated. The work had to be completed quickly, so Hopke had a very aggressive schedule. There was also some historic preservation of the old St. Elizabeths Psychiatric Hospital included with this work.

Central United Methodist Church (CUMC) has served the area with worship and community services for a century. Unity Homes at Ballston includes CUMC’s brand-new sanctuary space, an early childhood education for approximately 90 children, with a commercial grade community kitchen on the first two floors of the new building, as well as beautiful community amenities.
