W.B. Hopke Awarded Water and Sanitary Water Installation Project for the Islamic Community Center of Potomac

October 12, 2022 | W.B. Hopke Co. | New Project Award

In July 2022, W.B. Hopke was awarded a new water and sanitary installation project for the Islamic Community Center of Potomac. The Islamic Community Center of Potomac (ICCP), located at 10601 River Road Potomac, Maryland provides a sacred space to worship, learn, and contemplate in an open and inviting atmosphere. ICCP offers a variety of educational and community programs to bring people together in the spirit of gaining knowledge, serving others, and bettering themselves with the aim to better society as a whole. The center encourages participation in their programs from all faiths and denominations to foster community and understanding between all people.

Charlie McClellan, Hopke’s lead estimator, took approximately one to two months to research and review the project and secure the award. The project requires approximately 2 months to complete and should be complete in early 2023.

“Hopke is well known in the industry for this type of work and we were fortunate that this project came to us from a recommendation by one of ICCP’s attendees, who happened to be a Project Manager from a good customer of ours. We do not have a General Contractor for this project as we are working directly with an appointee from within ICCP. We are grateful to be selected as the contractor for this project,” said Mr. McClellan.

The work crews started the wet utilities project on Wednesday, October 12. “The scope of work includes excavating across River Road in Potomac, a public right-of-way for water and sanitary sewer. We will dig down on top of the existing water main and make a wet tap on the existing line. From there, we will dig across River Road to the property and install a 7′ x 7′ x 6′ water meter vault. From the water meter vault we will continue to the proposed building with the water and stop within 5′ of the proposed building. The sanitary sewer will connect to an existing sewer manhole and will go across River Road to within 5′ of the proposed building,” said McClellan. “Although the project is relatively routine, we still have to be aware and cautious while digging to install our water and sanitary lines, because a 66″ PCCP water line for WSSC Water is buried approximately 5 to 6 feet deep offsite and onsite. This requires digging test holes to keep our water and sanitary lines to within 12 to 18 inches above the PCCP water line,” said McClellan.

Charlie McClellan has been with Hopke for more than 18 years and helped win numerous projects. We appreciate his contributing to this article.

W.B. Hopke would like to recognize Charlie for his hard work and effort securing this project. Thank you, Charlie.
