Arbor Row Block D — aka The Monarch in Tysons Corner — Nears Completion in 2022

August 30, 2022 | W.B. Hopke Co. | Job Highlights

Arbor Row Block D, known as the Monarch, is a high-rise condominium building located at 7887 Jones Branch Drive in Tysons Corner, VA. The Monarch is strategically located next to Arbor Row which provides world class shopping, dining, entertainment, and the Metro Silver Line which connects to everything in Washington DC.

The project began in May 2019, paused during 2020, resumed in December 2021, and is scheduled for completion in late 2022. Hopke’s scope is substantially complete.

W.B. Hopke Company has been working on the project from the beginning and is a subcontractor to general contractor Hoar Construction. Hopke’s primary responsibility was to provide wet utility infrastructure including new sanitary main, water, storm and bioretention.

“It takes an experienced management staff and several dedicated crews to complete a project of this size and our guys have worked together to complete the project. The most notable aspect of the project was the installation of the Oldcastle Stormcapture infiltration system which came in (15) 8′ x 10′ pieces, and was installed on the south side of the new building,” said Hopke Project Manager, Paul Cloutier. The StormCapture system was installed in tight conditions with a significant slope of the south side of the system and the building to the north side of the system.

“Another aspect of the project which requires mention is a 24″ water main that was installed in Westpark Drive. It was about a 200′ stretch of line which needed approval from Fairfax County and had to take into consideration existing utilities in place through that stretch of roadway. The work took up about a 1/4 city block,” Cloutier said. Fairfax Water requires special approval for crews to install 24″ water main and Hopke has a number of crews preapproved by Fairfax Water for this size main.

Hopke’s scope of installation included:

  • Oldcastle StormCapture Infiltration System
  • 200 LF of 24″ zinc coated DIP with cathodic protection and associated valves and fittings
  • 360 LF of 8″ & 4″ Zinc coated DIP
  • 100 LF of 8″ & 6″ SDR35 PVC Sanitary Sewer Pipe
  • 1050 LF of 24″, 15″, 12″, and 8″ Storm Sewer Pipe
  • Nyloplast Drain Basins
  • Precast Storm and Sanitary Sewer Structures
  • 3 Storm Manufactured Treatment Devices – 1 Jellyfish Inlet, 1 Jellyfish Manhole, and 1 CDS Unit
